New carrier coming to Canada?
The excessively long Canadian spectrum auction has finally wound up, and the results not only netted the government a healthy $4.2 billion (about three times more than they were expecting), but also brought some newcomers out to play. As expected, incumbents Rogers, Bell and Telus grabbed bits of the wireless spectrum available for sale, but Globalive, owner of the Yak brand, also picked up $442 million-worth of airwaves. Canadian anti-monopoly laws which force existing carriers to rent out their towers to other providers could favour Globalive in their upcoming service, due as early as next Easter. It sounds like they also understand the current situation with Canadian wireless rates: “Canadians are unhappy about the costs, the complexity of the billing. I can speak for myself as a consumer. I’m confused by my bill.” said CEO Anthony Lacavera. Hopefully these guys will be offering some BlackBerrys when they’re ready to go.

Read MoreSubway Says Get Off Your Phone Or Go To The Back Of The Line
@TheLadyK: I'm in the same boat as you are, I am in a long distance relationship and with the 6 hour time difference between me and my boyfriend we pretty much only get to talk during his lunch break.
He'll wander around the store getting groceries while talking with me, it's how 'we' go grocery shopping. I'll be on his bluetooth when he's driving to Subway and when he is standing in line.
As soon as he's at the cashier or ready to order, I'm on hold and the person he's interacting with has his full attention.
Apparantly just the fact that we enjoy talking with each other while walking in public is a criminal offense for some people here. But come on, be a little tolerant.
You have no idea why most people are on the phone, or with whom. I treasure the hour (if we're lucky) we get to 'hang out' during the week days while we still live a few thousand miles apart, but that apparently doesn't matter to any of the 'haters', because if on a cell phone it -must- not be important.

BBCool gets ready to Pownce
Since using Flock, I’ve been getting into the web 2.0 stuff, and Pownce is a great new way to get all of it together. The big thing about Pownce is that it ties a lot of great services together, like our Facebook fan page, our Flickr page which will be seeing some more action around WES-time, our YouTube profile featuring all of our video reviews, and lots of other stuff. Pownce is still really new, so there’s no RSS feeds available in the posting area, but we’re sure it’s on the way. As soon as it hits, you’ll be able to get the quick-and-dirty version of BBCool right on our Pownce profile. Oh, and they’ve got a mobile site available at m.pownce.com, if you’re looking for access right from your BlackBerry.

Read MoreSmartphone usage on the rise
A new report from ChangeWave indicates that more and more cell phone users are planning a switch to more advanced models, and RIM and Apple are leading the pack. Of 4,182 consumers polled, 15% said they would be buying a phone from RIM in the next 6 months, while 17% said they’d be purchasing an iPhone. RIM was behind only Apple in customer satisfaction, ringing in at 55% compared the the iPhone’s 72%. While second place is nothing to sneeze at, things look even brighter when compared with the previous report in October. Apple’s customer satisfaction has fallen a whopping 10 points, mirrored to a lesser degree by every other smartphone company save RIM, who has risen 4 points. RIM also shows more momentum than Apple in those planning to purchase a new phone in the next 6 months: while while Apple has risen only 1 point since October, RIM has risen 3. The next report should be very interesting.
